The Waldron clone is a shiraz grape clone, also known as the Heritage Clone, originating from Hawkes Bay, NZ.
It typically produces wines that are rich and full-bodied with high alcohol and acidity. It is widely planted across New Zealand and parts of Australia.
Picked in the early hours of the morning, cold soaked on skins for 2 days before fermentation. Daily delestage (rack and returns) to increase colour, structure and phenolic weight. Pressed to large format oak barrels for maturation, bottled unfined.
Think blue-black fruits, tightly wound tannin thats firm but resolved, great concentration and length.
We suggest purchasing a 470 to compare to the Waldron. The Waldron is perhaps more typical Shiraz whereas the 470 pushes the boundaries. Both are 100% shiraz from the same vineyard in Frankland River (grown right beside each other) and made in a very similar way.
An interesting talking point if you can taste them side by side with a fellow shiraz lover.
