2025 Mencía
Meet Mencía, a hidden gem of Spain now thriving in Frankland River. Light, vibrant, and brimming with personality, this red is for fans of Pinot Noir and Gamay—bright red fruits, juicy cherry, pomegranate, a hint of liquorice, and just a touch of spice.
Half the wine is fermented with whole bunches, bringing a subtle savoury complexity, while a small portion sees 100% whole-bunch treatment, pressed and aged separately. Eight months in older barrels gives gentle earthy undertones without overwhelming the fruit. The result? A lively, food-friendly red made for sharing—think Iberico ham, charcuterie, or a simple pasta with red sauce.
We welcomed Oscar to the team last vintage, he’s a Spanish winemaker, and when we were offered some Mencia grapes, we couldn’t say no. Oscar researched and directed this project and has a deep love for his homeland grape, Mencía—a variety that’s made a comeback after nearly disappearing. Call it Men-thia if your drinking buddy is Spanish.
We gave this to the Liquid Surprises Wine Club first — only around 100 bottles remain.
