2023 Semillon
For a wine we had no intention of making, this is really making some waves! We recently released this to our wine club and have had exceptional feedback.
The fruit for this wine came in a package deal with some chardonnay we wanted from the Blackwood region. Growers drive a hard bargain sometimes! Orgially slated for Pet Nat or a white blend, we soon realised that there is a clear structural change in the soil throughout this block, with the top half on a much more forgiving ironstone complex, with larger berries, more foliage and retained it’s acidity. After fermenting the top half separately we realised it had the makings of stand alone wine.
We think it is a pure expression of a riper style. Pear skin, nashi, ripe citrus acid, slightly chalky tannins and great length. Interesting, different and delicious.
